An attractive panorama of Clement C. Moore’s, "A Visit from St. Nicholas" in Very Good condition with some age related wear and fading to the boards. This volume is published with 12 printed color lithographs on one side only in an accordion-fold format. Approximately 34 inches wide when fully opened, paper covers are printed in dark green ink. The Illustrations are reminiscent of both Thomas Nast and F. O. C. Darley. The back of the wrap has advertising for Prang’s Album Cards. St. Nicholas is shown in a golden rather than a red suit. One of five tiny volumes sold as a Christmas Stocking Library. The Library of Congress issued a facsimile in 1976. Louis Prang introduced the Christmas card to America.

Clement Clarke Moore

Clement Clarke Moore (July 15, 1779 - July 10, 1863) is the credited author of A Visit from St. Nicholas (more commonly known today as Twas the Night Before Christmas). Clement Clarke Moore was more famous in his own day as a professor of Oriental and Greek literature at Columbia College (now Columbia University). At General Theological Seminary he compiled a two volume Hebrew dictionary.
