When a young American woman is found dead in the French town of Honfleur, the victim of an apparent hate crime, the local prosecutor, Jean-Yves Le Drian, calls in the experienced homicide detective, Alain Berenger. Berenger is not sure what to make of the case. The victim, Kendra, was a remarkably happy young woman, and there is no obvious motive for her murder.

As Berenger investigates, he starts to uncover a web of secrets and lies in the town of Honfleur.
