This novel is about a young Apache teenager named Tully who is forced to flee his home and family when the Mexican Army arrives to raid the village. Tully is taken in by a group of Apache warriors and becomes their leader. They travel throughout Mexico and the United States, raiding settlements and defending Apache land. Tully falls in love with a Mexican girl and tries to reconcile his traditional Apache ways with the ways of the world.
