John Irving

John Winslow Irving was born on March 2, 1942 in Exeter, New Hampshire. He was an American novelist and Academy Award-winning screenwriter. Irving is well known for his recurring themes throughout his novels, such as New England, deadly accidents, and bears. His 1985 novel, The Cider House Rules, was turned into a film and won the Best Adapted Screenplay Academy Award in 1999 for the script. Additionally, Irving’s 1981 novel, The Hotel New Hampshire was turned into a film in 1984.
