In the small town of West Egg on Long Island in 1922, the only inn is the Fat Inn. The innkeeper is Miss Rose, a kind and gentle woman who has run the place for as long as anyone can remember. The only other business in town is the post office, and even that is starting to go downhill. Miss Rose is content to just sit out on the porch and watch the world go by. But when a new family moves into the town, the innkeeper starts to notice that her customers are starting to disappear. She soon realizes that the new family is the cause of all the trouble in town. The father, Mr. Bickford, is a ruthless businessman who is trying to take over the town's resources. The mother, Mrs. Bickford, is a lazy woman who spends her days sitting in the sun on the porch. The children, Sophie and Christopher, are disruptive and troublesome. The only person who seems to be able to stand up to; 8vo; Signed by Author.
