The story follows the life of a young girl, Lina, who is forced to flee her home in war-torn Syria. She is taken in by a kind couple in Canada, but is soon forced to leave again when her adoptive parents are killed in a car crash. Lina is then taken in by a family in Virginia, but is constantly on the run from the authorities, who believe she is a fugitive.
