Mark Twain spent a good portion of his life in Elmira, NY with his wife Olivia Langdon and their children. Twain wrote some of his finest pieces at Quarry Farms during summers with his family in Elmira. Editors Jerome and Wisbey, in conjunction with the Mark Twain Society, wanted to contentrate on Twain's personal and literary experiences and associations while in Elmira to use as a focal point of this biography.
