This book is set in PrairyErth, a world of deep, dark forests and cold, clear rivers. The characters live in a society where the children are raised by the animals and the older ones learn from the elders. The society is divided into clans, and each clan is ruled by a chieftain. One day, a stranger comes to the village and tells the chieftains about a great war that is coming. The chieftains refuse to believe him, but the stranger leaves them a warning. The war is coming, and the stranger wants the chieftains to prepare their people for it. The chieftains do not believe him, but they decide to send a scouting party to see if the stranger is telling the truth. The scouting party disappears into the forest, never to be seen again. The chieftains begin to worry about their people and decide to send a larger party to find them. The larger party disappears, too. The chieftains become; 8vo; FSA.
