The daughter of a Chilean aristocrat, Isabel Allende was born in 1933. After her father's death, Isabel and her mother moved to Europe, where Isabel attended a series of prestigious schools. Returning to Chile in 1957, Isabel began her career as a journalist. She later wrote novels, including Daughter of Fortune (1975), which was awarded the prestigious Prix Medici.
