Charles Fraser's talent for drawing was recognized at an early age. He wished to study art but, following the advice of his family, he studied law. After retiring from the Bar in 1818, he commenced painting professionally. His original Sketchbook, presented to Miss Alice R. Huger Smith by Joseph Winthrop, a great-nephew of Fraser's, was in turn presented by Miss Smith to the Carolina Art Association; Color Plates; [vi], vii-xv, [xvi-xvii], 40 plates pages.
