John Frederic Oberlin was born in 1809 in Germany. Oberlin was a self-taught scientist and educator who is most famous for his work in education reform. Oberlin founded the Oberlin College in Oberlin, Ohio in 1833. Oberlin was a proponent of the abolition of slavery and helped found the First Unitarian Church in Boston.
