A Hole in Texas is the story of an American family that goes from the city to the country to escape the war. They are the Wouks and their youngest, Gene, is the narrator. The Wouks are a loving family but they are also struggling to make ends meet. They have to move because their home is being bombed and they are in danger. They end up in a small town in Texas and things are not as they seem. There is a hole in the ground and people are disappearing into it. The Wouks start to worry and they start to look for answers. They find out that the hole is a place where people are being taken to be killed.
