Mrs. Grose soon becomes convinced that the woman is not really ill, and she starts to distance herself from the family. When the child starts to act out, Mrs. Grose begins to fear that something is wrong. She confides in her old friend, the governess at the next-door home, and together they start to investigate the situation. It becomes clear that the woman on the bed is not actually ill, and the Groses are left bewildered and frightened.; Book Club Edition; B&W Illustrations; 8vo; 145 pages; FSA.
