Night of the Tall Trees is an account of a journey of 1500 miles through the Liberian jungle by Gerard Periot. The journey begins in the town of Gbarnga in the year 1885 and ends in the year 1891. The journey takes the travelers through the dense jungles of the Liberian forest and across the wide, brown waters of the Rivers Essequibo and Congo. Along the way, they encounter many dangers, including the aggressive chimpanzees, deadly snakes, and malaria-ridden mosquitoes. Despite the challenges, the travelers make it to their final destination, the city of Freetown in Sierra Leone.
