The Family Lie is a novel by Georges Simenon and translated by Isabel Quigly. It tells the story of a man, Jacques Séguin, and his wife, Marthe, and their three children. Jacques is a successful lawyer, but he is also a liar. He has been lying to Marthe and his children for years, but they don't know why. They only know that Jacques lies to them and that it is something that he does without thinking. One day, Jacques tells his children a story about a magic kingdom. His children believe him, and they begin to lie to their own families as well. Jacques' lies slowly begin to take their toll on all of them, and they begin to fall apart.
