In this novel, Lillian Hellman tells the story of one woman’s search for justice, and the lengths she will go to get it. In the early 1920s, the woman, identified only as “Mrs. K”, is the victim of a brutal rape. She files a police report, but her case falls through the cracks. Mrs. K spends the next several years working tirelessly to get her rapist convicted, even going so far as to insinuate herself into the criminal underworld in order to get information. Despite her best efforts, the man is never found guilty. Frustrated and despondent, Mrs. K takes her own life. The novel explores the themes of revenge, justice, and the cost of seeking it.; 8vo; 106 pages.
