Eve is a novel about a woman's journey from innocence to experience. Eve is born into a family of farmers in the early 1800s. She is raised on a farm with her brother and sister, learning the basics of life. When she is 14, her family moves to town and Eve starts to learn about the world around her. She meets a boy and falls in love with him, but he is already married. Eve becomes determined to find out more about the world and starts to explore. She learns about politics and the Civil War, and her love for learning leads her to pursue a career as a teacher. Eve's life takes a turn when she becomes pregnant and has to make a choice between staying with her husband or leaving him. Eve decides to leave and raises her child alone. Eve's life changes again when her son becomes a teenager and he starts to rebel against the life Eve has given him. Eve decides to return to her husband and try to make things right.
