The novel tells the story of Ezra Bourjaily, a young man who has spent his entire life struggling to find his place in the world. After spending a year in prison for a crime he didn't commit, Ezra is released and begins to rebuild his life. He starts by moving in with his mother and trying to find a job, but his lack of experience and criminal record make it difficult. Ezra is eventually able to find a job as a janitor at a college, but he's constantly frustrated by the rules and regulations that the school imposes. Ezra is also struggling to deal with his own feelings about his past and his relationship with his mother. The novel culminates with Ezra's decision to leave the college and start over.; 8vo; 434 pages; Price? ? ?
