William Gerhardie's "Of Mortal Love" is a story of love, loss, and redemption. It follows the story of Eva and Marcus, two people from very different backgrounds who find themselves attracted to each other. Eva is a wealthy young woman from a well-to-do family, while Marcus is a poor orphan who has been working on the docks throughout his life. Despite their different backgrounds, the two fall in love and are determined to make their relationship work. However, things get complicated when Eva's family discovers their relationship and decides to force her to choose between Marcus and her own happiness. Eva ultimately chooses Marcus, but their happiness is short-lived as Marcus is tragically killed in a shipwreck. Eva is left to deal with the aftermath of Marcus' death, including the guilt she feels for choosing him over her own happiness.
