When David Damrosch's father dies, he inherits a dusty old library. Inside are three leather-bound volumes: The Iliad, The Odyssey, and The Epic of Gilgamesh. The books are ancient, and David is sure they're not worth anything. But he can't help but be drawn to them. He starts to read them, and he's hooked.

David is a history professor, so he knows about the ancient world. He's been reading about the wars between the Greeks and the Trojans, and about the adventures of Odysseus and Achilles. He's amazed by all the stories, and he can't stop thinking about them.

One night, David decides to take the books out to his car. As he's loading them into the trunk, he accidentally knocks over one of the volumes. He tries to replace it, but he can't find the other one. Panic starts to set in. What if he can; 8vo; 315 pages.
