Author Bio

A. A. Milne

Alan Alexander Milne is the beloved author and creator of Winnie-the-Pooh. Although renowned as a novelist and playwright during his own lifetime, his children's stories have become Milne's enduring legacy

The birth of his son, Christopher Robin, inspired Milne to try writing for a younger audience. First he wrote a collection of children's poems, followed by short stories that were the beginnings of his Winnie the Pooh tales. These now-legendary characters were based on the real-life Christopher Robin and his collection of stuffed animals.

Milne passed away at age 74 in January of 1956. The variety of his works and the popularity of Winnie the Pooh have made Milne perennially popular among collectors.
