Adams, Alice

Alice Adams (born August 14, 1926 in Fredericksburg, Virginia) wrote many novels, but is mostly known for her short stories. After her marriage broke up, she spent several years working as a secretary. She published Careless Love, her first novel, in 1966, after her psychiatrist told her to give up writing. During her career as a writer, Adams received the O. Henry Award and the Best American Short Stories Awards for her works. She died on May 27, 1999 in San Francisco, California.
