French Revolution

The French Revolution was a time of great political upheaval that fundamentally impacted both France and modern world history. Thanks to both the Seven Years' War and the American Revolution, France faced significant economic strain. Commoners were also increasingly frustrated with the monarchy and the excesses of the noble class. As the ideals of the Enlightenment took hold, the country was ripe for revolution. It finally began in 1789 and lasted a full decade.

The French Revolution accelerated the adoption of republicanism, secularism, and liberalism around the world.
