Nansen, Fridtjof
Fridtjof Nansen (October 10, 1861- May 13, 1930) was a Norwegian humanitarian, scientist, explorer, and diplomat. Nansen led the team that made the first successful crossing of Greenland in 1888. He also earned international attention after setting a record for reaching the highest northern latitude on expedition to the North Pole (1893-1896). Nansen’s exploration techniques and innovations continue to influence Arctic and Antarctic explorers.
