Geology

Geology is the study of the rocks, minerals, and other materials that make up Earth. The discipline dates all the way back to ancient Greece and has emerged as a significant academic discipline over the several century. James Hutton is often credited with being the first modern archaeologist, and it was he who proposed in 1785 that Earth was much older than previously estimated. This issue remained the primary focus of geology until the 1900’s. In the past century, the most important developments and discoveries in geology have been in plate tectonics.
