German

Modern German is a language similar to both English and Dutch. Approximately 95 to 100 million people speak German as their first language, making it the most widely spoken first language in the European Union and one of the world's major languages. Derived from the Germanic branch of the Indo-European language family, German incorporates words that originate in both Greek and Latin, as well as some that come from French and English.
