Arthur Conan Doyle publishes The Adventures of Sherlock Holmes in 1892. In 1893, Thomas Alva Edison finishes construction of the first motion picture studio in New Jersey. In 1895, Rudyard Kipling publishes the story Mowgli Leaves the Jungle Forever in The Cosmopolitan. In 1898, Marie and Pierre Curie announce discovery of a substance they call Radium.
