In the novel Thunderball, Ian Fleming first introduced the world to perhaps the ultimate Bond villain -- Ernest Stavro Blofeld. Though Bond and Blofeld never actually meet, it is in this book that Bond first battles the schemes of SPECTRE, Blofeld's criminal organization.
