The novel follows the Weinribbs as they move from the small town of their childhood to the city, and then back to the vineyard. They are joined by a new family in the vineyard, the Tuscans, who help the Weinribbs to rebuild their lives.
The Weinribbs are a family of farmers, and their vineyard is their life. When the grandfather dies, the family is forced to sell the vineyard. They hope to find a new home for the vineyard, but it is not easy. The Tuscans help the Weinribbs to rebuild their lives, but they are not able to keep the vineyard.
