When her mother dies, 11-year-old Lillie is sent to live with her grandparents in New York City. Lillie is dismayed to find that her grandparents live in a walk-up on the Lower East Side and that they don't have any food in the fridge. To make matters worse, her grandparent's only telephone is broken and they can't get a hold of anyone to fix it. Desperate for a way to get food, Lillie faxes her mother a list of food items she would like to see in the refrigerator. Her mother doesn't answer her fax, but the list gets her grandparents thinking; maybe they can start selling food from the walk-up to make some money. With the help of their friends, they start a food cart and start serving bagels, cream cheese, fruit, and coffee. Soon, they are able to put away enough money to buy a bigger space and start a bakery. Lillie's grandparents; 8vo; Signed by Author.
