The Last Blue Plate Special is the story of a young girl, Scout, as she grows up in the small town of Maycomb, Alabama during the 1930s. Scout is the seventh of nine children and the only girl. Her father is a lawyer and her mother is a stay-at-home mom. Scout loves spending time with her family, especially her brothers, but she is also interested in the world around her. In 1935, the year Scout turns ten, her father is elected to the state legislature and the family moves to Montgomery, Alabama. There, Scout becomes aware of the racism and segregation that exist in her new home. Despite the obstacles she faces, Scout is determined to make a difference in her community. She joins the Young Women’s Christian Association (YWCA), participates in the Civil Rights Movement, and becomes a leader in her school and church. In the end, Scout’s activism leads to change and her community is better for it. The; 8vo; Signed by Author.
