When Crow’s father is killed, the young boy is sent away to live with his grandmother in the country. Crow is forbidden to paint, but he spends his days exploring the sprawling property and the many animals that live there. One day, Crow finds a can of paint and starts to create paintings of the animals. When his grandmother finds out, she is furious and sends Crow away again. Crow returns to the country and continues to paint, but this time he keeps his paintings hidden.
