Shanghai born Anchee Min (January 14, 1957) is a painter, photographer, musician, and author. Min's memoir, Red Azalea, and subsequent novels are either semiautobiographical or emphasize strong female characters like Jiang Qing, the wife of Chairman Mao, or Empress Dowager Cixi, the last ruling empress of China.
