In Terminal Velocity, Blanche McCrary Boyd tells the story of a family from North Carolina who travel to Florida to spend their vacation in the sun. The McCrarys are a typical American family, complete with two parents, four children, and a dog. The children are excited to spend their vacation in the sun, but the parents are a little more cautious. They are not used to the heat, and the thought of their children getting sick makes them anxious.

The McCrarys are not the only ones who are anxious about the trip. The airconditioning in the hotel is not working, and the heat is becoming unbearable. The hotel employees are unable to fix the airconditioning, and the humidity is making the air even more unbearable.
