Larry McMurtry's Some Can Whistle is a novel about a group of men in their late 20s and early 30s who are struggling to figure out their lives. The men are down on their luck and have a lot of problems, but they also have a lot of commonality. They all grew up in small towns and have been unsuccessful in finding jobs that fit them. They all have relationships with women that are difficult, and they all feel like they're missing out on something. The men spend their days drinking, smoking, and playing cards. They also spend a lot of time talking about their lives and their problems. McMurtry does a great job of capturing the feel of a small town in the 1980s. Some Can Whistle is a well-written and interesting novel that is sure to appeal to fans of McMurtry's novels.; FSA.
